If you plan to electronically transmit "e-file" a tax extension with a tax software provider listed on IRSExtension.com, please note: E-filed tax extensions are not complete until they have been received and confirmed as "accepted" by the IRS. As such, users who e-file must wait for and maintain a record of the IRS confirmation number before presuming acceptance of the extension. In the event that the IRS rejects the e-filed extension, you will typically have an opportunity to correct and resubmit it.
